PRESS RELEASE FROM SMP GROUP - 29 MAY 2019

The SMP Group is excited to be named as Trailmaker Sponsor of the Wallabies Gone Wild 2019 art trail, in support of Hospice Isle of Man.

The trail, which comprises of 26 large wallaby sculptures that have been designed and hand-decorated by a group of artists, launched on Friday 24th May and will run for 14 weeks until the beginning of September.

The wallabies are located at various outdoor sites across the Island and create a vibrant ‘wild in art’ trail for all ages to participate in. Thirty-eight smaller sculptures, painted by local schools and community groups, have also been placed at several indoor locations.

Trailmaker Sponsor SMP is also sponsoring one of the large sculptures. ‘Joey’ the SMP-sponsored Wallaby can be found outside the Hailwood Centre, behind the TT Grandstand.

David Hudson, Director of SMP Group, said: ‘Hospice Isle of Man is our Charity of the Year for 2019 so we were thrilled to be given the opportunity to get involved in this initiative, while simultaneously fundraising for such a worthy cause.

‘We are proud to be part of the local community and a high-profile project like this is huge for Hospice and the Isle of Man. As an international company, initiatives like this are extremely important to us and we plan to do our very best in order to help make it a huge success.’

Anne Mills, CEO of Hospice Isle of Man, added: ‘We believe the trail will not only provide endless hours of fun and excitement for children across the Island, but adults too. The designs that our artists have created for us are truly magnificent, and we can’t wait for the public to enjoy the wallaby sculptures over the summer months.

‘Being sponsored by the SMP Group is a great opportunity for us and we are truly grateful for the support the team has given us so far. We look forward to working with them not just during the trail, but throughout the year as well.’

SMP is encouraging the local community to get involved as Wallabies Gone Wild volunteer ‘Trailmakers’. There are a number of opportunities available, including:

  • Volunteering in Hospice shops: providing trail maps, merchandise and assisting with unlocking sculptures
  • Sculpture maintenance: including cleaning, reporting of damage and monitoring of individual or multiple sculptures
  • Trail Guides: out and about on the trail distributing maps and helping participants to download and use the app
  • Operational support: including pricing and packaging of merchandise, installation of wallabies etc
  • Event support: for all wallaby-related events over the summer such as Flag Day in June, Wallaby Wander in July and the Farewell Weekend in September
