Olivia Dakeyne Announced as Keynote Speaker for the Isle of Man Sustainable Finance Symposium 2025
27 October 2025
The Isle of Man Sustainable Finance Initiative is pleased to announce Olivia Dakeyne, Research Principal at Themis, as a keynote speaker at the Isle of Man Sustainable Finance Symposium 2025, taking place on November 5 at the Villa Marina, Douglas.
Olivia will deliver a keynote address examining the global scale and financial impact of environmental crime — a sector that has become the third most profitable form of crime worldwide, generating hundreds of billions in illicit profits each year.
Often dismissed as an ESG issue, environmental crime is in fact a serious financial and security threat, driving corruption, fuelling organised crime and terrorism, and undermining legitimate economies. Olivia will explore how the financial sector is directly exposed, with trillions in annual funding connected to high-risk companies across commodities such as minerals, cattle, and palm oil.
Her address will challenge financial institutions to recognise environmental crime as a core financial risk, emphasising the critical role of banks, insurers, and investors in tackling the flow of illicit finance linked to environmental harm.
As Research Principal at Themis, a leading anti-financial crime provider, Olivia leads international research projects on financial and environmental crime, advising governments, NGOs, and private sector organisations around the world. With 15 years of experience across research, finance, sustainability, and policy, she brings deep insight into the intersection of crime, climate, and capital.
The 2025 Symposium, themed “Turning Ambition into Action,” will explore how businesses can seize sustainable finance opportunities while addressing the systemic risks that threaten global resilience.
