Guests from the legal and banking sectors joined partners and directors of Grant Thornton at 1886 Bar and Cocktail Lounge in Douglas for the launch of a new service offering insolvency, restructuring and asset recovery from the Isle of Man.

The event celebrated the firm’s newly formed insolvency resolution division which provides contentious insolvency solutions via a more coordinated approach than traditional methods and sits alongside the auditing and accountancy services delivered for more than 30 years by Grant Thornton in the Isle of Man.

Dennis McGurgan, from Grant Thornton Isle of Man, welcomed guests to the gathering, as well as introducing highly respected speakers from Grant Thornton offices around the world. They included Kevin Hellard (Practice Leader Grant Thornton UK, Insolvency and Asset Recovery), Amaechi Nsofor (Partner for Head of Africa Business Group and Natural Resources), David Sowden (UK Director specialising in forensics, fraud and asset tracing) and Mike Saville (UK Director, Insolvency & Asset Recovery).

Claire Watterson, from Grant Thornton Isle of Man explained: ‘At Grant Thornton, we are fortunate to have a dedicated team of insolvency and forensic specialists with experience of complex insolvency assignments - often of a cross-border nature.

‘Our local services are enhanced by an extensive global business, this was a superb opportunity to invite senior figures in the business across to the Island.

‘They provided a brief oversight of the areas they specialise in, as well as outlining some of the higher profile and more challenging and complex matters they have been working on in both the UK and further afield in regions such as India, Russia and Africa. We look forward to hosting a similar event to welcome local Corporate Service Providers in the near future.

‘It was a very informative evening and a great opportunity to celebrate the launch of our new services and network with fellow professionals.’

Grant Thornton Isle of Man’s dynamic team works closely with lenders, creditors and other stakeholders to determine and agree robust strategies, providing technical assistance, research and knowledge.

It explores the complexities of insolvencies, debt resolution and restructuring in an integrated service that encompasses options assessment and cost analysis, valuation, stakeholder management, tax planning, and detailed step plans and delivery of the insolvency process.
