An associate with PwC Isle of Man has set a global standard after securing the second highest mark worldwide in an industry-leading qualification.

Holly Karran from Onchan not only achieved the highest marks of anyone in the Isle of Man sitting the final ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) papers, but also scored the second highest score in the world in the Strategic Professional Level exams.

Holly, 25, who joined the firm as a graduate from the University of Chester on the firm’s student accredited training programme, has been promoted to Senior Audit Associate.

‘It is a real honour and I’m naturally thrilled to be named a global prizewinner in the ACCA examinations. I think it reflects the work I put into the qualification, as well as the huge support my colleagues at PwC have given me throughout,’ she explained.

As well as qualifying, Holly has received a silver medal, £400 in prize money and a certificate of merit for her achievement.
She started work towards the ACCA qualification shortly after joining PwC Isle of Man in 2015 and sat her final exams last month.

‘The support I have received since joining the firm has been so beneficial, as has the guidance of the team at MPES (Manx Professional & Educational Services Limited).

‘I am looking forward to working with my clients and helping our firm continue to provide the exceptional service we offer clients,’ Holly added.
The ACCA accountancy qualifications, which can take up to 10 years to complete, involve passing a series of exams on a wide range of subjects, demonstrating three years’ experience in a relevant role and successfully completing a module on professional ethics. It requires candidates to complete extensive studying and demonstrate comprehensive practical experience.

Ian Clague, Senior Partner at PwC Isle of Man, said:

‘We are delighted with this fantastic news and I want to congratulate Holly on such an amazing achievement. Clearly, finishing so high in the worldwide rankings is outstanding and deserved recognition for such a significant amount of hard work.

‘It is also a ringing endorsement of what a valued and capable member of PwC Isle of Man she is. With the firm’s support, continued professional and career development, and the power of our global network, I look forward to seeing her continue to progress.’

Recruitment for PwC Isle of Man’s 2020 professional training programme will open later this year with opportunities for school/college leavers, graduates and experienced professionals, as well as summer internships.
