Property Update from Isle of Man Wealth & Fund Services Association

Following on from their event in Autumn 2018, The Isle of Man Wealth & Fund Services Association will provide an update to pro-manchester members and their guests. The event will discuss the Isle of Man’s flexible corporate offering, looking at the choice of corporate vehicles and advantages they offer, particularly 2006 Act companies and the ease of making distributions, protected cell companies and the segregation of assets and liabilities. There will be a practical update on the changes to the taxation of UK property for non-resident companies and discussion around how discussing economic substance requirements may impact on UK property owning structures. Followed by a short update about UK REITS and current trends in respect of listing.

Speakers include:

1. Katherine Johnson - Katherine is a senior associate within the Corporate department of Appleby in the Isle of Man, having qualified as a Manx advocate in 2013. Katherine specialises in Isle of Man funds and providing regulatory advice and is also a member of the data protection team at Appleby. Katherine has acted on a number of mergers and acquisitions, listings and restructures of international groups.

2. Martin Portnoy - Martin has been a tax partner with EY since 2007 and specialises in all areas of personal tax, including offshore structures having advised extensively individuals and Financial Institutions on the tax aspects of various matters. Martin advises many Hedge and private equity fund partners.

3. Chris Kelly - Chris is an Director with EY in the Isle of Man and advises on all areas of Isle of Man direct tax, including automatic exchange of information and the recently introduced economic substance requirements.

4. Carolyn Gelling - Carolyn is Head of Isle of Man Office for The International Stock Exchange Group, a responsive and innovative listing facility for international companies to raise money from investors based around the globe and has been increasing its market share in the listing of UK REITS over recent years.
