Equiom seminar outlines current tax landscape for Island residents

22 January 2019, 8:30 to 11:30am, Palace Hotel, Douglas

Equiom Solutions, the tax division of Equiom Group, will be hosting its annual seminar.

The event will be opened by former Equiom Solutions Tax Director, Phillip Dearden. The first speaker will be Helen Woods, Managing Director of Equiom Solutions, who will present on the topic of ‘protecting your wealth for future generations’. Next will be Roy Callow, Senior Tax Consultant, who will give a thorough insight into Isle of Man tax with an update on the key changes locally. Derek McNutt, Senior Tax Consultant and Monica Dixie, Tax Director, will then explain how an Isle of Man resident becomes liable for UK taxes in the important topic of ‘How does an Isle of Man resident find themselves on HMRC’s radar’.

Finally, Glenn Cassidy, Senior Tax Consultant, will give a recap of the key changes to the taxation of UK property proposed by the UK Government, including capital gains tax changes, and their potential impact on local residents. The seminar will conclude with a summary and Q&A session, along with closing remarks from Phillip Dearden.

Helen Woods explains: ‘The 2018 UK and Isle of Man budget announcements have given way to some important changes to the taxation of businesses and individuals on the Island. With an ongoing quest for tax transparency across jurisdictions, local residents continue to face additional liabilities both here and in the UK where they may hold assets. Our annual seminar presents a crucial opportunity to review these changes and assess the current and future tax landscape for Isle of Man residents. With a great line up of expert speakers, the event is set to be an informative session and I hope it will prove useful for individuals and advisors alike.’

Equiom Solutions provides tax and estate planning services to Isle of Man residents and businesses and helps with annual tax filing obligations including tax returns, as well as outsourced tax compliance services for fiduciaries.
