Finance Isle of Man is made up of the Agency's board members and internal team, who are responsible for developing and implementing a strategy which will support long-term, sustainable economic growth as well as promoting and developing the Island’s significant financial and professional services industry, ensuring the Isle of Man's continued recognition as an International Finance Centre of Excellence.

Aidan Doherty

Finance Isle of Man Chair

Aidan’s career in the financial services industry has spanned over 40 years, the majority of them in the Isle of Man, having moved to the Island in 1984. His career, largely in Banking, has seen him also based in Ireland and the Cayman Islands, as well as the Isle of Man, all of which have provided Aidan with an in-depth knowledge of the financial services industry generally. Aidan has joined the Department for Enterprise as the new Chair of the Finance Isle of Man Executive Agency where his role will be to provide effective leadership and strategic direction to form a cohesive and focused Board.

Aidan is married to Pauline and has two adult children working in the Telecoms and Healthcare industry.

Michael Crowe

Finance Isle of Man CEO

Michael joined the Department after working in the Accountancy profession for 27 years. He was a Director at Grant Thornton Limited, and prior to that at PKF. Michael is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, the former President of the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce and former Chair of the Isle of Man Society of Chartered Accountants. During his professional career he worked on the Island with a wide variety of clients and organisations of all sizes, covering all sectors of the local economy.

Lawrie Hooper MHK

MHK & Department Member for Finance Isle of Man

Lawrie Hooper MHK is a member of the House of Keys for Ramsey. Lawrie trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers on the Isle of Man with a focus on Audit. He has spent four years working as a Manager at Crowe Morgan, working for a mix of local and international clients, carrying out audit, assurance, accountancy, tax and general CSP work.

Mark Denton

Finance Isle of Man Board Member

Mark Denton was the Managing Director of the SMP Partners Group, one of the largest trust and corporate service providers in the Island until his retirement in 2019 after 31 years. The Group employed more than 165 people in the Isle of Man with additional offices in the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Hong Kong, Jersey, Malta, and Switzerland.

Originally from Lincoln, Mark worked in London for 15 years, during which time he was a Private Banking Manager with Grindlays Bank for seven years before joining what is now SMP Partners in 1988, then moving with the company in 1997 to the Isle of Man where he took up the position of Managing Director in 2007. Mark became Chairman of the IOM Association of Corporate Service Providers in 2012 which comprises approximately 110 members.

Simon Nicholas

Finance Isle of Man Board Member

Simon Nicholas is a leading financial services partner of KPMG Isle of Man. He has a focus on both audit and advisory engagements, whilst Simon works with fintech start-ups to cross border global institutions across wealth management, banking and the risk sectors, he has a specialism in insurance.

Simon has been named Insurance Advisor of the Year for the last 3 years – with extensive experience in external audit, internal audit, regulatory consulting and deal advisory. Additionally, he has a number of appointments on Isle of Man trade bodies and industry advisory groups.

Chris Till

Finance Isle of Man Board Member

Chris Till was born in Morecambe and moved to the Isle of Man in 1992 to take up a position with Barclays on the the Island having worked for the bank in the UK since leaving school.

Chris joined Standard Bank Isle of Man Limited in 1996 as Credit Manager. Some 20 years later and Chris is now the CEO of Standard Bank Isle of Man Limited and Island Head for Standard Bank, becoming CEO in 2014. He has been an executive director of the bank since 2006. Chris is also responsible for the Isle of Man branch of the Standard Bank of South Africa and the international companies of the Group based on the Island.

Chris obtained a BSc (Hons) in Financial Services from the University of Manchester and is a Chartered Associate of the LIBF, a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, and a Fellow of the Institute of Directors.

Dina Hill

Marketing Manager Finance Isle of Man

Dina joined the Department for Enterprise in November 2018 as a marketing manager with responsibility for Finance Isle of Man Agency, Isle of Man Ship Registry and Isle of Man Aircraft Registry.

Dina is a Member of Chartered institute of marketing after having completed her CIM Diploma in Marketing in 2009. With over 10 years’ experience in Marketing and Business Development working within CSP environment, Dina will oversee the Agency’s marketing strategy both in the Island and internationally.

Mark Dougherty

Finance Isle of Man Board Member

Mark is the Law Society representative on the Finance Agency and is also Managing Director of DQ Advocates a leading law practice on the Isle of Man.

Mark has extensive experience both in the Isle of Man and Bermuda in corporate and commercial law and is ranked as a leading individual in his field of law on the Island by both Chambers (Corporate and Finance) and Legal 500 (Corporate and Commercial). 

Mark regularly advises multi-national companies, listed entities, banks and private equity houses as well as high net worth individuals in a wide range of Isle of Man corporate and commercial matters. He also sits on the IOM Government Regulatory and Legislative Innovation Working Group and sat on the IOM Law Society council for many years as head of the education committee.

Mark Lewin

Department for Enterprise CEO

Mark first joined the Department in 2012 following an extensive career spanning over 25 years on and off the Island that included senior executive positions across a range of sectors including financial services, technology, hospitality and leisure.

Mark has previously been the Managing Director for one of the Isle of Man’s largest banks, the head of operational strategy for a global wealth business, director of a significant pan-Island technology and change function and an independent consultant in both financial services and in technology based transformation and in his career has worked extensively in the Isle of Man, London and Channel Islands.

Mark has a breadth of experience in the Island’s key sectors, strong connections with industry and first-hand experience in implementing large scale strategies and prior to his current role Mark was the Executive Director for Government Technology Services within the Cabinet Office, the shared service for technology services and digital transformation within Isle of Man Government.

As interim Chief Executive of the Department for Enterprise, Mark instated a full strategic review of the existing structure, implementing a fundamentally different format and introducing Executive Agencies enabling them to leverage the private sector expertise and knowledge and create a partnership approach to product development, policy input, and promotion.

Mark is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors, a Chartered Member of the British Computer Society, and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.

Stuart Nelson

Finance Isle of Man Board Member

Stuart Nelson is a Director of Barclays in the Isle of Man. He heads up their Fiduciary, Family Office and Funds Team, which focuses on delivering Financial Services needs to a wide range of both domestic and international clients. Stuart has over 25 years experience in Offshore Banking across multiple segments. He also Chairs the Chamber of Commerce’s Financial and Professional Services committee.

Stuart is passionate about the future success of the Island and is married with 3 children.

Gill Marples

Finance Isle of Man Board Member

Gill started her career in financial services working for a large UK insurance group. She has worked in the Isle of Man insurance sector for over 20 years managing compliance and operations departments. Gill is now a Director and Head of IntegraLife International Limited.

Gill is also the immediate past chair of the Manx Insurance Association and is a council member of the Isle of Man branch of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

John Hockney

Finance Isle of Man Board Member

John Hockney is the Director & Shareholder of Hockney Stevens Chartered Financial Planners, established in the Isle of Man since 2001, licensed by Isle of Man Financial Services Authority and Director & Shareholder of wholly separate UK Company, Hockney Stevens Consultants Ltd, as an appointed representative of the Sense Network Ltd and authorised by The Financial Conduct Authority. John brings over 31 years’ experience in the Financial Services Industry. His former roles include Independent Financial Adviser & Chartered Financial Planner, President of the Insurance Institute of the Isle of Man (Chartered Insurance Institute) during 2014/15 and Chairman of the Isle of Man region of the Personal Finance Society (2012 to 2017).

John is an Associate of the Personal Finance Society, a Chartered Financial Planner and a Pension Transfer Specialist, as authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority.

John has been resident in the Isle of Man since 1995 and is extremely happily married with 2 adult sons, he is also a keen kitesurfer and recently qualified RYA Day Skipper.

Simon Pickering

Head of Insurance and Pensions

In his role as Head of Insurance and Pensions, within the new Finance Agency, Simon Pickering will call upon his 33 years of experience in the Island’s Financial services industry. A key part of that role is to support the existing businesses in the Life, Captive, Pensions, Funds and Wealth and Financial Advisory sectors.

Acting as a conduit between these traditional sectors and wider Government he will look for opportunities for growth through marketing, new initiatives, and media opportunities both locally and internationally. He will also look to assist any new licence holders looking to make the Island their home.

John Hunter

Head of Banking and Fiduciaries

As Head of Banking and Fiduciaries for the new Finance Agency, John Hunter brings 35 years banking experience which has included senior management roles with NatWest and RBSI, working across a wide spectrum of sectors including, Private Client/Fiduciary, Life and Captive Insurance/Banks and Funds, as well as having been a director on various subsidiary businesses for the Bank.

John moved to the Isle of Man in 2007 and previously worked in London, Cambridge, Bristol and Guernsey and holds the Diploma in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors.

John will be working closely with the financial and professional services sectors to support growth and success as well as ensuring, in conjunction with business partners, that we promote the Island's highly professional financial services.

Katrina Skinner

Finance Isle of Man Secretariat

Katrina joined the Department as the Senior Secretary to the Financial Services Team in 2012 after several years working in the private sector.

Despite the steep learning curve initially, Katrina finds working for the Department an enjoyable and interesting experience, taking a keen interest and involvement in the different areas of the Department and Government.

Alongside the rest of her colleagues, Katrina has played an important part in the setting up of the Department for Enterprise and the four Executive Agencies.

Katrina feels very privileged to be part of this new era of Government and private sector partnership and is looking forward to assisting the Finance Isle of Man Agency in developing and promoting the Island’s financial and professional services industry.

Louisa Buckingham

Marketing Executive

Louisa joined the Department in September 2018 as marketing executive with responsibility for Enterprise Support and Central Registries. Since then, Louisa has worked across several other aspects of the Department including Locate Isle of Man, and latterly in Finance Isle of Man, Isle of Man Aircraft Registry and Isle of Man Ship Registry.

Louisa joined us from the marketing team at Hospice Isle of Man. Prior to that Louisa spent several years in the UK working as a marketing manager for a leading fintech company based in Cheshire.

Lauren Hide

Executive Officer

Lauren joined the Department in early 2019, supporting the Finance Isle of Man Agency as executive officer.

Previously Lauren worked in the banking sector for over 10 years, working for several leading banks including HSBC and Lloyds Banking Group. Her roles have varied from chief cashier and head of counter, to executive support for premier client and high net worth individuals. 

Lauren also spent two years working for the Isle of Man Prison Service as a prison officer.
